The Business

Along Came Quilting started as an online business and in June, 2002 opened a walk-in store front located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  “Bossy” Linda Goh worked as a staff member from November 2002, became a Manager, and in September 2006, dropped the “Y” and became the owner and official “Boss”.  Linda is notable for her laugh or her sneeze.  Once heard, you’ll always recognize it and know where she is in the store.  And, of course, she still has bossy tendencies.

The 4500 square foot store is exceptionally well-lit, and features nearly 2000 bolts of batiks/bali watercolours at the front.  There is also a flannel section towards the back of the store, and in-between are shelving bunks of fabric groupings:  Kaffe Collective; Japanese Taupes; Civil War and Reproduction; Novelties; Christmas and Halloween; Western; Licensed Prints; Free Spirit Designers; and what the staff refer to as “The Colour Wall”.  This “Colour Wall” is huge, and snakes in a rainbow fashion in and out of the bunks of shelves.  It is full of basics, tonal prints, small designs, and solids.  Being a fabric palette, it is where staff and customers go to find the colours they want and need for their quilts.

A very large section of books reside at the front of the store, with chairs so you may browse comfortably.  We have always believed that books need to be reasonably priced in order to encourage ownership and learning of the sewing and quilting arts.  Our books are priced at $2CDN over the US marked price.  And if we don’t have a book in stock, we will order it for you also based on this pricing model.

Hundreds of patterns are available for viewing at the front of the store, as well as thread, and a huge notion and ruler section.  If there is something you want, but can’t find in our store, we will certainly see if we can bring it in for you.  Special orders are “our thing”, and our regulars take advantage of this, as our pricing is fair and reasonable for all our products.

Batting is available at extremely good pricing – well below that of chain stores, even after their membership discounts.  There is packaged batting, as well as batting by the meter, and we will happily explain the various attributes of the ones we sell.

As of November 2016, our store became the Canadian SewEzi dealer, selling these fabulously engineered tables and accessories Canada-wide.

Most of our products are on the webstore at www.alongcamequilting.com.  But as with in-store customers, if there is a product needed which is not on-line, just call or email us, and we will see if we can obtain it for you.

Want to learn how to quilt or make new projects? Join us in our brightly-lit, separate walled classroom. Each student gets their own 8’ long table. Rolling chairs, irons and ironing tables, and height-adjustable cutting tables are provided. All four walls are “design walls” where you can lay out your projects and view your creation as you piece.  Our teachers want you to be successful, and are there to help guide you through your project.  Check out our current class offerings.

Meet the Staff

You know what quickens our pulse?  Helping customers and having a good time doing so.  There are no “quilt police” in our ranks, and we just want to help everyone be successful with their projects.  You should feel acknowledged, heard, and helped.  All with a smile and reasonable, fair pricing.

The Boss:

Linda GohLinda Goh – Making the big decisions daily, paying the bills, handling the website changes, ordering fabric, and shipping the orders at night keeps her busy.  If you need to speak with someone about your on-line order, Linda is your go-to person.  She has the keys to the locked drawers!

The Managers:

Linda BLinda B. – So she doesn’t get mistaken as the Linda who pays the bills, she is affectionately known as Linda B.  Sharing the office with Boss Linda, and often involved with purchasing decisions, she sees all the new products right away and puts them online for the webstore.  Everyone knows that if you can’t find something, ask Linda B.  She knows where stuff is!

Leslie F.Leslie F. – Leslie has served quilting customers for nearly 20 years now!  She also is one of our regular teachers, teaching beginner classes, as well as other projects she comes up with regularly.  Not intimidated by machines, Leslie puts them through their paces and makes many of our store samples.  She is a trouble shooter (not a shooter that makes trouble).

Kim M.Kim M. – Kim loves to try everything in the quilting arts and probably has.  So if you have an oddball question, ask Kim on one of her days working the floor.  And if you want in-depth teaching of how to make something, take one of her classes.  She loves teaching and it shows.

Anita R. Anita R. – Keeping an even work flow on the floor is Anita’s specialty.  You’ll see her helping customers, packaging kits, and keeping tasks done.  She loves to see your projects and before you know it, you’ll be her best friend.  She is a voice of calm and logic.

Worker Bees:

Judy A.Judy A. – Ever helpful with a big smile, Judy wants you to have a good time while she helps you find the fabrics you need.  Very personable, everybody in Calgary knows Judy, and you might too!  She is our celebrity.

Sharon H.Sharon H. – Sharon gets to open the boxes!  Yes, she is a first responder to the incoming packages.  And she also gets to make product look nice on the shelf after she puts the merchandise out for sale.  She might even cut and package kits and pre-cuts from the lovelies.  Or she may be helping with online orders or various other administrative duties.  And if that isn’t enough, Sharon helps design/illustrate things that need designed/illustrated.  She makes things look good and work well.

Linda GohVonda L. – Spotted occasionally and often after hours when it is dark, Vonda is a behind-the-scenes worker.  She is helping us get the kitting and admin work done!

Linda GohTeri M. – Teri works on the floor, and there’s nothing more she loves to do than help customers.  With a big smile and an attentive disposition, Teri will assist you with your questions, and help explain the purposes of various notions and items.  She loves to stay up-to-date with various products and quilting methods, and has weeks of YouTube watching behind her.  She is fastidious and loves anything green.

Linda GohFiona M. – A serial volunteer, having put years of her time and energy with various quilting committees – most notably as the past leader of Calgary’s Victoria’s Quilts – Fiona came to us with lots of administrative experience and background.  She is a quiet understudy, listens thoughtfully, and plots the plan.  Working the floor, she can help you plot your quilts!  She knows everyone, and she knows how to get things done.

Myrna M.Myrna M. –When the going gets tough, or if the customers need help, we call Myrna.  A real paper-piecing buff, she has attended Judy Niemeyer (Quiltworx) classes and made many of her designs.  Ever helpful, she is on call when we need her.  She is our go-to gal.

Linda GohKaren N. – Karen loves making bright, cheery quilts, and now with a grandchild she’ll be making more!  She likes to be kept busy, so come on in and ask for her help.  Besides working the floor, she teaches our beginner quilt, “Begin with the Basics”; and with her quick wit, she keeps the students at ease and guides them through the process calmly.  She has the best stories ever.

Betty W.Betty W. – Betty is now on a mission to use up her fabrics and boy does she make quilts!  There may be family “picnic” quilts made from her never-ending scraps, or the latest modern design mixing stash fabrics and new.  Prolific and entertaining, Betty has helped countless customers with their projects, providing guidance and advice.  She has a vast wealth of sewing knowledge, having been involved with the sewing industry for well over 20 years.  She knows the lyrics and often breaks into song.
