We are a Canadian store and sell in metric measurements.

To help you convert between imperial and metric, refer to the table below showing both yardage and metreage and the equivalent number of inches.  The metreage highlighted is the increments in which we sell (.1m increments with a minimum of .3m):

The magic number

If you require conversion in larger amounts there is a simple way to do this.  Convert the number of yards called for in the pattern to inches and multiply by .0254.  This will give you the equivalent number of metres.

Example 1:  The pattern asks for 6 yards of fabric.  From the above table, you can see that each yard is 36”.  Therefore, to calculate the number of metres:

36” x 6 = 216”

216” x .0254 (the magic number) = 5.49 metres

Therefore, 6 yards is 5.49 metres, and you will purchase 5.5 metres of fabric as we sell in .1 metre increments.

Example 2:  The pattern calls for 3 1/3 yards of fabric.  From the above table, you can see that each yard is 36” and that 1/3 yard is 12”.  Therefore, to calculate the number of metres:

36” x 3 = 108” + 12” = 120”

120” x .0254 = 3.05 metres

Therefore, 3 1/3 yards is 3.05 metres.  You will purchase 3.1 metres of fabric as that is the next .1 increment above 3.

Fat quarters

We are also happy to cut and sell Canadian-sized fat quarters of our standard-width quilting cottons.  A Canadian-sized fat quarter is larger than an American-sized fat quarter, as it is cut .5 metre by half the width of the fabric, making it approximately 19.68" x 21".  An American fat quarter is cut 18" by half the width of the fabric, making it approximately 18" x 21".  Please contact us at askus@alongcamequilting.com or phone 1-877-745-6445 for our current pricing on fat quarters.

If you need help with conversions or wish to order fat quarters (Canadian sized at 19.68" by 1/2 the width of fabric) of any fabrics, please contact us at askus@alongcamequilting.com or phone 1-877-745-6445
